On July 2-3 Vladivostok will host the Fourth Pacific Economic Congress devoted to the prospects for economic development of the Far East. One of the partners of the event is USK MOST, which has been erecting a bridge crossing over the Eastern Bosphorus Strait to Russky Island in preparation for the APEC Summit 2012 in Vladivostok.
Every year the Congress assembles several hundred participants, both from Russia and foreign countries. This is a unique platform for dialogues, where politicians, government officials and business community representatives, as well scientists and experts, can discuss the most pressing issues of development of the Asia-Pacific countries.
The search for ways to modernize the Far East, expansion of international cooperation within the region, formation of a modern interaction model for higher educational establishments, science, and business, and development of effective financial and transportation infrastructure are topics that will be the focal point of discussions at the Fourth Pacific Economic Congress, which will involve over 400 people.
Four discussion sessions will run on the first day of the Congress: The Far East a transit node in the Asia-Pacific Region, The Far Eastern Federal University. Perspectives of Russian high-technology centers in the Far East, Vladivostok 2012: dividends from state investments, and Financial aspects: infrastructure – investments – innovations. The final plenary session will take place on the second day, when the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Igor Shuvalov, will address the meeting. The main topic of the plenary session will be Russia’s role within APEC and preparing Vladivostok for the APEC Summit 2012.
As part of the preparations for the APEC Summit 2012 in Primoriye, leading-edge transportation infrastructure is being created. The unique bridge crossing over the Eastern Bosphorus Strait will be a connecting link between Vladivostok and Russky Island, where the Summit’s main events will take place. The bridge currently under construction will be one of the largest cable-stayed bridges in the world (length of the center span – 1104 m, height of the bridge towers – 320 m, length of the cables – up to 580 m). Construction of the bridge will be completed in the second quarter of 2012.
Experts point out that the infrastructure facilities being erected in Vladivostok are of significant value both for the economic development of the Far East and for strengthening the relationship between Russia and the Asia-Pacific countries.
