The tunneling crews have driven 1,222.5 meters of the transportation/drainage gallery at Krolsky Tunnel construction. The total length of the gallery will be 2,257.6 meters.

Divisions of the SK MOST group of companies are conducting finishing operation inside the main tunnel simultaneously with gallery tunneling and they also drive escape connections between the tunnel and gallery.

An entry wall has been erected at the eastern tunnel entry. The builders proceed with construction of a ventilation building and a retaining wall at the western tunnel entry. The track has been laid in a section of about 1 kilometer.

Construction of the new Krolsky Railway Tunnel (Abakan-Taishet section of Karsnoyarsk Railway) began in 2004. The new tunnel was driven in parallel with the existing tunnel at a 36-meters spacing, and the tunneling was completed in May 2008. The new Krolsky Tunnel is the first railway tunnel in Russia that was driven using a mechanized tunneling shield.

All construction operations are to be completed by the end of the year 2011.
