The OJSC SK MOST carries on with construction of a viaduct over Shiroky Log canyon (1418th kilometer of Agryz – Druzhinino section, Gorky Railway). Three out of thirteen supports have been completed on the project site; a bridge crew building and a bridge inspector station have been erected.
Self-climbing formwork made by HÜNNEBECK, a German company, is used for erecting the supports. The work is carried out simultaneously on six supports. Drilling rigs are in operation; pits are excavated; piles and grillage are put in place; and supports are concreted. A viaduct security facility is being built simultaneously with the viaduct.
The spans that are 33.6-meters long will be installed on the finished supports using GPK-130U railway crane. The bridge builders already have the experience of such work: they used the same lifting crane in construction of a viaduct over Ryabinovy Log canyon in June 2008.
Unlike the old viaduct designed in 1915, the new viaduct will not have the nice-looking arches, and the trains will run on top ballasted steel girder spans. It was decided to leave the old viaduct in place as a monument dedicated to the first Transsiberian Railway builders. It will also be used for train traffic during maintenance operations in the section.
