Assembly of Herrenknecht Tunnel Boring Machine is Almost Completed at Lermontovsky Prospekt Station in Moscow

Specialists with SK MOST Group of Companies are completing assembly of Herrenknecht Tunnel Boring Machine which is going to be used for driving the left interstation tunnel between subway stations Lermontovsky Prospekt and Vykhino in Moscow.

The parts of the shield were delivered from Germany, after which the assembly work was started. One of the major parts, the rotor designed for soil cutting and grinding, was assembled on May 22. The rotor cutting diameter is 6.150 meters, the rotor weight is 57 metric tons, and the entire machine weighs 508 tons. Liebherr LTM 1500 and Liebherr LTM 1220 lifting cranes were used for rotor assembly. The assembly of the tunneling machine will be followed by shakedown operations.

The tunneling is to start in June, and 1,800 meters of tunnel will have to be driven from Lermontovsky Prospekt station to Vykhino station. Installation of reinforced concrete lining will follow tunneling.
