“Russky Summer 2014”: A Sea of Good News against the Backdrop of the Russky Bridge

Recent news

The Russky Summer International Festival is being held for the second time in the capital of Primorye following the initiative of Vladimir Miklushevsky, Governor of the Region. The panoramic view of the world largest cable-stayed bridge over the Eastern Bosphorus Strait imparts a special flavor to the show.

The spectacular sports festival has become tremendously popular, and not only in Vladivostok. An aquabiking competition “Russian Grand Prix 2014”, which is held as part of the festival, gathered 27 top racers from Russia, Japan, France, Italy, Portugal, Belgium and Finland. Vladivostok also watched an extreme sports show featuring world-class stars representing such spectacular sports as bike freestyle and motorbike freestyle. In addition, the festival guests took part in an extensive cultural program including art and photo exhibitions. The organizers have also arranged amateur competitions including kayaking, aquabiking, and dragon boating, as well as master classes for children and adults. About 30 million visited the events of the bright and exciting Russky Summer 2014.

“There are no competitions similar to those held in the Primorye Region in the entire world. The open-sea waves of up to four meters high, fog, side wind – those are tough tests”,

– says Peter de Smet, President of the Aquabiking Association of the IJSBA, Director of the “Russian Grand Prix 2014” races.

“Nowhere in the world would athletes travel over a thousand kilometers. This is why only the best racers came here to test themselves under such challenging conditions. The grand panorama of the Russky Bridge at which the races are held, is the hallmark of the prestigious “Russian Grand Prix.”

“The Russky Bridge actually started these international competitions because the Russky Summer Festival was first launched after the bridge was built”,

– says Yury Ryabko, a sportsman from Primorye, the winner of the race.

This year we have an opportunity to better use the potentials of the infrastructure of the Far Eastern Federal University and of Russky Island. This place can become an excellent international sport and recreation center, a kind of Olympic Village.

“My congratulations to all the athletes who have sustained this tough race and who did not give up and fought to the very end! The standard of the race is clear: The Primorye Region will host the competitions as an official Aquabiking World Championship for the next three years!”

– said Vladimir Miklushevsky, Governor of the Primorye Region, congratulating the participants of the Russky Summer 2014 Festival.

“Due to the bridge over the Eastern Bosphorus Strait, the Far Eastern Federal University and other infrastructure project built here, Russky Island will become the anticipatory development area in the region. One of the lines of its development will have to do with a recreational zone. Here we want to build an aquarium, a safari park, an aquapark, an indoor cycling track, and a cycling park with extreme biking facilities, which will allow us to host prestigious international competitions in the region. Russky Island will have to become a nice recreational place for Primorye residents and for Vladivostok visitors.
