Static and dynamic load tests were successfully completed.

The railway bridge across the Don River has successfully passed static and dynamic load tests.

The works were carried out on the 21st and 22nd of October.

Static testing involved a sequential loading with a test load, when a locomotive stood still for 2-3 minutes on each span structure.

Dynamic tests were carried out using a rolling stock that passed across the bridge at speeds of 25 km/h and 40 km/h, 2 test runs in each direction.

During the procedure, the entire area around the bridge was blocked off according to the instructions and the protocol to ensure safety.

During train loading test, two coupled 2TE25KM locomotives with a total weight of 288 tons (24 tons per each axle) were used.

“Testing of the bridge is a very important stage in the construction, after which we are allowed to proceed to the main final works on replacing temporary rails with lengths of rail in a ten hours “time window”, which is scheduled for the 28th of October. After that, traffic will be switched to the new bridge on the permanent basis, also within a “time window”, but now it will last for twenty hours,”

said Deputy Chief Engineer, Project Manager of STROY-TREST JSC Alexander Aleksanin.

The new bridge over the Don River will make it possible for freight trains weighing up to 12 thousand tons to pass at a speed of up to 90 km/h.

Launch of the traffic on the bridge is scheduled for the end of 2020.
