Tunnel boring machine (TBM) Victoria has to pass 1,692 meters

Specialists of the SK MOST Group of Companies have begun driving a double-track interstation tunnel between the Pechatniki and Nagatinskaya Zaton stations of the Big Circle Line of the Moscow Metro.

The route of the new tunnel will pass through a heavily built-up area (civil and industrial facilities, highways, a large number of underground utilities), as well as under the operating Pechatniki metro station of the Lyublinsko-Dmitrovskaya Line. In addition, tunneling will be carried out under the bed of the Moskva River.

“Today Victoria began its journey from Pechatniki to Nagatinsky Zaton. We have a lot of work ahead that requires accuracy and coordination. The width of the Moskva River on the way of the TBM is quite large – about 500 meters, and the shield breakthrough will occur shortly after the passage under the bed close to the water,”

said Konstantin Ponomarenko, head of the Dubrovka branch office of USK MOST JSC, a part of the SK MOST Group of Companies.

Tunneling works are carried out using a unique 10-meter tunnel boring machine (TBM) Herrenknecht EPB-10690 (S-517) Victoria, which previously drilled a tunnel between the Tekstilshchiki and Pechatniki stations of the BCL and after moving through the station under construction continued on its way.

The length of the new tunnel will be 1,692 m. The outer diameter is 10.3 m, and the inner diameter is 9.4 m. The tunnel under construction has a double track, due to which a significant reduction in construction time is achieved, since two train tracks are located in one tunnel at once.
