On the left bank, temporary buildings, the residential construction camp and the construction site office were protected by an earth levee. On the right-bank and left-bank construction sites of the Zeya Bridge, bridge builders have taken the necessary measures to overcome the flood. On June 21, the builders began to carry out a set of works aimed at getting through the flood period and ensuring the safety of specialists on construction sites.
“From 21st to 23rd of June, we lifted all special equipment and mechanisms to high benchmarks, on the embankments. On the left bank, temporary buildings, the residential construction camp and construction site office were protected by an earthen levee. The equipment located on supports was removed, on the recommendation of design engineers, 3 pits were deliberately flooded, they were filled with water so that the sheet piles would not collapse, and the temporary bridge to the seventh support on the right bank was dismantled. Yesterday we relocated facilities to the right bank and intensified the work on this site. Since the volume of work during the flood period decreased, about 200 residents of the Amur Region were allowed to go home with the preservation of the part of the salary provided in such cases, the rest of the specialists work at the right bank. We are waiting for the flood peak to pass by”, the project supervisor and the head of the USK MOST JSC branch office Eduard Davydov reported on the work done.
The facility is monitored around the clock, on-duty teams work at the sites, they carry out operational response actions, if necessary.
“Despite the fact that the flood is still a force of nature, the experience of previous years gives us the opportunity to consider it as a predictable phenomenon. The builders of the new Zeya Bridge had enough time to prepare and carry out a set of flood protection measures. We are waiting for the peak of the flood. Depending on the extreme water level, how long and in what condition the water will stay, we will get constructive aspects after the water goes down; it is too early to сomment on the impact of the flood period upon the facility, we will wait for the water level to go down, and experts will assess the graveness of the aftermath,” emphasized the Head of the Amur Region VasilyOrlov.
