The specialists of Bamtonnelstroy-Most Group of Companies have built the Russian part of the bridge
On June 10, the opening ceremony of the first cross-border motorway bridge crossing between the Russian Blagoveshchensk (Amur Region) and the Chinese Heihe (Heilongjiang Province) took place. Deputy Prime Minister – Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yury Trutnev and Vice-Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Hu Chunhua, as well as the Governor of the Amur Region (RF) Vasily Orlov and the Governor of Heilongjiang Province (PRC) Hua Changsheng attended the ceremony.
Eight Russian trucks of Gazprom Helium Service LLC powered by environmentally friendly fuel – liquified natural gas (LNG) transported freight containers across the Amur River to China. Eight freight trucks from the Chinese side entered Russia at the same time.
“The Blagoveshchensk-Heihe bridge has special symbolic meaning in present-day disintegrated world. It will become another tie of friendship linking the peoples of Russia and China. The bridge construction started in 2016. Thousands of people were involved in the project, and construction works were being carried out round the clock both on Russian and Chinese sides. This bridge crossing is unique because its construction project was implemented without budget funds on a concession basis,” – Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yury Trutnev noted.
The Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation expressed his gratitude to Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bamtonnelstroy-Most Ruslan Baisarov, Russian and Chinese builders, Minister of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation Alexander Kozlov (previously acting as the Governor of the Amur Region), and Chinese colleagues.
“On behalf of the Government of the People’s Republic of China I would like to congratulate everyone on this special occasion and express gratitude to the builders from both sides for the enormous work done. The bridge crossing is an important transport infrastructure project, which is under сlose attention from the leaders of our countries. The motorway bridge opening signifies readiness and firmness to deepen the entire range of bilateral practical interactions further and gives new momentum to cooperation between Northeast China and the Russian Far East,” – Vice Premier of the State Council Hu Chunhua said.
From the Russian side the bridge across the Amur River was built by specialists of Bamtonnelstroy-Most Group of Companies. Construction began at the end of 2016. Parts of the bridge were erected simultaneously from both banks, they were connected on May 31, 2019. After that, work continued on both sides; the main stages of the bridge construction were completed in December 2019, and in May 2020, the permit to put the bridge into operation was obtained.
The bridge is 1,080 meters long. Each side (Russian and Chinese) has built a half of the bridge, which is 540 meters long.
The total length of the bridge crossing is almost 20 km. Besides the main bridge, it includes 13 km of access roads on the Russian territory, of which 278 m takes the bridge over the Kanikurganskaya Anabranch, and 6 km is for the road in China.
The bridge has an optimally designed extradosed structure that allows to reduce weight of a superstructure, height of pylons, and length of stay cables.
The construction was carried out using a concession model without borrowing budgetary funds of the Russian Federation.
The projected annual passenger traffic on the bridge will be about 3 million people, cargo traffic will be about 6 million tons. The route for goods travelling to the European part of Russia will be reduced by 1,500 km.
